Thank you to Jessica Leon and Dionicio Baca for volunteering to start and manage the Instagram account for ATISDA.
Jessica says, “We are super excited to be curating the posts that will go up on the page.”
Meet the people behind the account, in their own words:
Jessica Leon is a professional interpreter and translator specializing in K-12 special education; she is currently employed by the Vista Unified School District. She is a UCSD Translation and Interpretation certificate alumna, as well as a Spanish for the Professions degree holder from the California State University of San Marcos. Jessica’s passion has always been bridging the communication gap between English and Spanish speakers in the San Diego area which has led her to become involved in various local community organizations. She has been a member of ATISDA since 2017 and formed part of the Nominating Committee for the 2019 elections.
Dionicio Baca is an experienced professional translator and interpreter in areas ranging from education to government-related work. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish from the California State University San Marcos and a Professional Certificate in Translation and Interpretation from UCSD Extension. Currently, he is the sole district translator for the Escondido Union High School District, as well as an on-call translator and interpreter for the Vista Unified School District. During elections, he works as a Translator/Proofreader for the San Diego Registrar of Voters. He has been an ATISDA member since 2017 and was a member of the Nominating Committee in the 2019 elections. In his spare time, he likes to spend time with his friends, and he volunteers for some local and international organizations like Translators without Borders.
